Can you think of times when you learned language by the different historical approaches...
*Grammar Translation Methods.
I remembered the time when I was 5th grade in elementary school, my mother sent me to a horrible grammar institution. we used a thick book and inside of book, i found a full of black letters. The teacher taught us by old style grammar teaching. Most times i fell into sleep, I could not help myself. I did not improve any English grammar skills.
*Audiolingual
I still remember the name of academy , it was like more than 14 years ago!!!!
It was called "Let's go" which was very sensation at that time. When I went inside at first time, there was about 10 computers and students were all sitting with headphones on and looking at the screens.
After we all listened ,
teachers checked whether we had done properly or not. Honestly, I think this teaching method was not good at all. Students couldn't understand fully and concentrate.
*Communicative Language Teaching
Which have you experienced the most?
I had a speaking tutor who married with a Newzealander and she was most like a native speaker.
At first class, I really uncomfortable her teaching style. I couldn't open my mouth, because I knew that I was at very poor level of speaking in English. Her method were a piece of paper, a pen and cassette tape and recorder. She pressed the ON button and starting the greeting mentions and daily talks. During the recording, she wrote down expressions , idioms and phrase verbs while we talking which I wanted to say during conversation with her. That really helped me to get close to "SPEAKER".
Give examples of activities that fit into the different methods
I just want to combine all these three learning style onto one! WHICH is a
" Making a own short story!"
Firstly , I teach one basic grammar in step by step and do some exercises to make sure they understand then write any kinds of story with using the forms of grammar which they learned;
story could leads us to massive imagination which I strongly important about.
Moreover, It will be more
practical , actually students can use how to put their words into right place while using own sentences.
Then, I collect them and making corrections. Lastly, I ask them to read out to partner or to whole class.!!
How do you (will you) balance these approaches as a teacher???
UM.... This always will be my consideration, more and more to think.
However, for starter, I think that
I need to look over my future students's level and features so that I can make a proper curriculum for them. Sometimes, I give them fun and serious during the class.
If I always give them a good treats then they would be not focus on studies. I really hope that they found my class effective and joy-able.
